Track & Field Wraps Up Action At Blazer Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -The UAB track and field team competed in eight events Friday to conclude the Blazer Invite at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Senior Kristina Vaughn placed third in the 3,000 meters with a personal best time of 10:12.59. Following right behind Vaughn was senior Clara Cid, who crossed the line fourth in 10:14.00.
Junior Shakima Knox and redshirt sophomore Angel Watson competed in the 60-meter finals. Knox raced to eighth place (7.68) and Watson finished in 7.75.
Watson took sixth place in the 200 meters with a time of 24.77. Junior Thelyssa Katchen recorded a time of 26.10 in the same event, while sophomore Kyana White clocked a 26.59.
White claimed seventh place in the 400 meters with a personal best time of 58.70.
Senior mid-distance runner Lucy Taylor logged a sixth-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.16. Senior Lauren Fayen crossed the same line in 2:21.01.
Freshman Kendra Gipson triple jumped to second place (11.99m) and classmate Shelby Barker jumped 11.46 meters for seventh.
The Blazers will take a week off from competition before returning to action at the Birmingham Invitational Jan. 25-26 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
