TROY, Ala. -- UAB freshman pitcher Leigh Streetman tossed a complete-game three hitter to lead the Blazer softball team to a 4-2 victory over Troy on Tuesday evening at Troy Softball Complex. Shortstop Kayla Orr went 2-for-3 on the day with a run and RBI, while third baseman Kate Armstrong was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
"The little things were key for us winning this game today," UAB head coach Marla Townsend said. "We were smart on the bases, had some clutch hits and took advantage of (Troy's) mistakes."
The Blazers improve to 32-13 and Troy falls to 27-21.
UAB centerfielder Caley Walden scored the game's first run in the third after she reached on a base-knock then stole second. Orr plated Walden with a two-out single to the gap in left-center.
Troy tied things up in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a two-out home run off the bat of third baseman Kelly Luquette.
The Blazers inched back in front in the top of the fourth. First baseman Erica Sisson ripped a two-out double to right-center and advanced to third on a passed ball. Sisson made her way home on rightfielder Sallie Van Kirk's base-hit to make it 2-1.
UAB tacked on two more in the fifth thanks in part to a Troy miscue. Orr singled and eventually scored on a fielding error by the shortstop, while catcher Mandy Lowman walked and later scored on Armstrong's second hit of the game.
Troy was able to add one more in the sixth on a UAB error, but Streetman retired the final five batters to preserve the win.
Streetman (11-5) allowed one earned run on three hits while fanning eight to pick up the win. Morgan Grove (8-6) suffered the loss after coming on in relief, tossing 3.2 innings and giving up three runs on five hits.
UAB continues road action with a Conference USA series at Tulsa this week. The Blazers will take on the Golden Hurricane in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday and conclude the series with one game on Saturday at noon.
