BIRMIMGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB baseball team will look to get back to its winning ways on Tuesday with a midweek trip to Troy in non-conference action. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT at the Trojans' Riddle-Pace Field.
The Blazers (20-16) are looking to bounce back from their first weekend series loss of the season after dropping three games at home to Memphis. Troy (26-9) is also coming off a series loss at Middle Tennessee that knocked the Trojans from the national rankings.
UAB will send freshman right-hander Chase Mallard to the mound (0-1, 2.08 ERA) for his second start of the season, and Troy will counter with left-hander Shane McCain (1-1, 4.26 ERA).
UAB's John Frost drove in three runs in the Memphis series to run his team-leading RBI total to 25, while Jamal Austin continues to lead the Blazers with a .349 batting average. Defensively, UAB's .974 team fielding percentage is on pace for the best in school history.
Troy is led offensively by Adam Bryant, who is hitting .322 with team-highs of 13 doubles, four home runs and 34 RBI. Logan Pierce is second on the team with 30 RBI, while four Trojan regulars are hitting better than .300. Troy has also been stellar defensively with a .980 team fielding percentage.
UAB and Troy will be meeting for the 38th time with the Trojans holding a slim 19-18 edge in the all-time series. The teams split two contests last year with each squad winning on the road.
Tuesday's matchup is the first of two meetings in a week between the teams, who will also square off next Tuesday in Birmingham.
