Women's Golf Opens Competition At C-USA Championship

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- The UAB women's golf team opened competition Sunday at the 2011 Conference USA Championship at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club. The Blazers recorded a team score of 317 and currently sit 10th after day one.
SMU and UTEP are tied atop the team leaderboard, each registering a total of 302 through the first 18 holes. Tulane rounds out the top three, just one stroke behind the leaders with a 303.
UTEP's Teresa Nogues tops the individual standings, recording a 71 for one under par. Tulsa's Marita Engzelius and SMU's Amy Ruengmateekhun each shot a 72 to tie for second through the first 18 holes.
Ana Martin's 75 in the first round paced the Blazers. Martin is currently tied for ninth. Jaime Brabb recorded UAB's second-best score at 78, while Jaime Ritter and Carolyn Cochran rounded out the Blazers' scoring with a round of 72 each.
The tournament will resume Monday for the second 18 holes with the first pair teeing off at 9 a.m.
