Blazers Continue Action At C-USA Championship

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- The UAB women's golf team continued action on Monday at the 2011 Conference USA Championship at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club. The Blazers recorded a team score of 323 in the second round to move up to ninth with a 36-hole total of 640.
UTEP took over sole possession of first place with a 302 in the second round to post a two-day total of 604. Tulane moved up to second place after registering a 304 for a 36-hole total of 607, while SMU fell to third after shooting a 306 in the second round and is currently tied with Memphis at 608. Memphis' second-round total of 296 was the best 18-hole score of the tournament.
Tulsa's Marita Engzelius carded a 71 in round two and stands as the leader at one under par with a 36-hole total of 143. UTEP's Teresa Nogues and Tulane's Maribel Lopez Porras are tied for second three strokes behind Engzelius at 146 each.
Jaime Brabb jumped to the top of the Blazers' scoring column after registering a 79 in the second round. She is currently tied for 28th with a 36-hole score of 157 after recording a 78 on the first day. Jaime Ritter improved her score by four strokes through the second 18, shooting a 78 for a total of 160. Carolyn Cochran is just one stroke behind Ritter with a 36-hole total of 161 after registering a 79 on day two. The Blazers' leader through the first 18, Ana Martin, struggled in the second round with a low score of 93 to finish round two with a total of 168. Taylor has recorded an 87 in each of the first two rounds for a 174.
The tournament concludes Tuesday for the final 18 holes with the first pair teeing off at 8 a.m.
