BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB football team returned to the practice field Tuesday morning, working out for just over 90 minutes in preparation for this weekend's upcoming game at Memphis.
The Blazers practiced without pads on Tuesday, not uncommon at this point in the season, especially for a team that has played nine straight weeks since beginning the season with its open date.
"We're kind of a banged up team in some spots," UAB head coach Neil Callaway said. "It's that time of year. If we had come out here in pads, we would have had several guys who couldn't practice. By no means are we taking anything for granted, but it's the best thing to do right now."
Still, Callaway thought Tuesday's session was productive as the Blazers build toward the "Battle for the Bones" rivalry game with the Tigers.
"The attention was good," Callaway said. "The focus and tempo were both good."
UAB (1-8, 1-5 Conference USA) will face a Memphis team that has had an extra week to prepare thanks to an open date last weekend. The Tigers (2-7, 1-4 C-USA) lost their most recent contest, 41-0, at UCF but posted a 33-17 road win at Tulane the week before.
Saturday's kickoff is slated for 3:15 p.m. CT at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis with the game to be televised regionally by CSS.
The Blazer IMG Sports Network radio broadcast will air locally on WUHT-FM 107.7 in Birmingham. David Crane and John Whitcomb have the call with Sam Miller on the sidelines. The pregame show begins 90 minutes before kickoff.
