BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team is back at home this weekend as the Blazers play host to in-state foe Troy Saturday afternoon.
Kickoff at Legion Field is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CDT. The game will be carried live on the Blazers ISP Sports Network and can be heard in Birmingham on 107.7 WUHT-FM. David Crane, John Whitcomb and Otis Leverette will call the action with the pregame show beginning at 1:30 p.m.
UAB (0-2, 0-1 Conference USA) will be in search of its first victory of the season after losses the past two weeks at home to Florida Atlantic (32-31) and on the road at SMU (28-7).
Troy saw its record evened at 1-1 last Saturday as the Trojans lost a tight contest at Oklahoma State, 41-38. Troy held a 27-20 lead at halftime in the game. The Trojans opened the 2010 season a week earlier with a 30-27 win at home against Bowling Green.
Troy is led on offense by redshirt freshman quarterback Corey Robinson who has connected on nearly 70 percent of his passes for 524 yards in the first two games. Senior wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan has 16 receptions in the first two games to rank No. 9 nationally.
UAB sophomore quarterback David Isabelle has hit 47 percent of his passes for 188 yards with a pair of touchdowns in the first two games. Isabelle ranks 13th in the latest NCAA statistics at 124 yards per game.
Two weeks ago in the Blazers' season opener vs. FAU at Legion Field, Isabelle ran for a C-USA QB record 214 yards.
Saturday's meeting will be the eighth all-time matchup between the two schools. Troy leads the series by a 4-3 margin. The Trojans won the 2009 meeting, 27-14, last September at Troy. In the last meeting in Birmingham, in 2006, the Blazers prevailed by a 21-3 score.
"It is a game we are looking forward to playing," UAB head coach Neil Callaway said of the series with Troy. "It's a good series for us. I think it is good we are playing Troy, being an in-state team, and it will be a big challenge."
The game vs. the Trojans Saturday will be UAB's last at Legion Field for almost a month. The Blazers' next home game following the contest with Troy will be Saturday, Oct. 16 when UTEP comes to Birmingham.
