BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- After heavy afternoon rains dampened the UAB practice field Sunday, the Blazer football team limited its work to an hour-long session focused mostly on going over player assignments.
"It's not what we wanted," UAB head coach Neil Callaway said, "but I do think we were able to get some learning and recognition stuff out of it."
Having practiced at Legion Field on Saturday, the team was back on campus Sunday as it moved one day closer to Thursday night's season opener with Florida Atlantic.
"I think guys are focused on FAU," Callaway said. "Thank goodness we went last night at Legion Field since we weren't able to have a full practice today. Tomorrow will be like a Wednesday for us, so we'll continue on with the process of game week."
The Blazers have three practice sessions remaining before being one of the first teams in the country to kick off the 2010 season.
Thursday's opener is slated for 7 p.m. CT at Legion Field. The game will be carried live on the Blazers ISP Sports Network and can be heard in Birmingham on 107.7 WUHT-FM. David Crane, John Whitcomb and Otis Leverette will call the action with the pregame show beginning at 5:30 p.m.
