Mandy Lowman Named To C-USA All-Academic Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- UAB catcher Mandy Lowman was one of 11 student-athletes tabbed to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced Thursday.
The all-academic team was voted on by the league's softball sports information directors and consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a starter or key reserve for their team.
Lowman is a secondary education major with a focus in mathematics and boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA. The Huntsville, Ala., product was recently named to the ESPN The Magazine All-District IV softball second team and dubbed a 2009 NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete.
She is a two-time C-USA Academic Medal recipient and C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, and has been named to UAB's President's List and Dean's List every semester of her career.
Earlier this week, Lowman was one of three Blazers named first-team All-C-USA. The sophomore slugger is hitting at a .348 clip and has blasted a team-high nine home runs. She has also notched 12 doubles and leads the Blazers with a .585 slugging percentage. Lowman and teammate Kayla Orr have set a new UAB single-season record with 40 RBI apiece.
Behind the plate, Lowman ranks second in C-USA with five pick-offs and has caught 13 runners stealing.
Lowman and the UAB softball team will face Houston Thursday in the opening round of the C-USA Softball Championship. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. CT at the Cougar Softball Stadium.
