BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB track and field team will travel to the Mississippi Open hosted by Ole Miss University this Saturday to compete in its final meet prior to the Conference USA Championships May 13-16 in Orlando, Fla.
Saturday's action will get underway at 10 a.m. CT at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex with the women's hammer field event. The meet will continue all day and conclude after the 4x400m relay at 4:10 p.m.
Full meet results will be available online at uabsports.com upon the conclusion of competition.
"We just had an off weekend that gave the girls some much needed rest," UAB interim head track and field coach Kurt Thomas said. "We still need fine-tuning in several events such as the hurdles, and that's what we are going to work on this weekend."
The Blazers will compete against host Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tulane, Memphis and Southern Miss among other schools Saturday.
"This is our last chance to put things together and be confident going to to the C-USA Championships in Orlando, so it's time for them to really step up," Thomas said.
In UAB's last outing, sophomore distance runner Lauren Fayen broke the UAB record in the 1500m and took the event title at the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational on April 17 in Baton Rouge, La. Fayen clocked a personal-record time of 4:31.58 in the invite session, breaking the previous outdoor 1500m record time of 4:32.91 set by Alina Varpiotaite in 2008.
