BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- This weekend's non-conference baseball series between UAB and Manhattan has been cancelled.
The teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday at Young Memorial Field, but Saturday's forecast in Birmingham calls for heavy rains and severe thunderstorms.
With the possibility of not being able to play the games and Manhattan not scheduled to arrive in Birmingham until late Friday, the decision was made for the Jaspers not to make the trip.
The three games with Manhattan are the first UAB (20-17) has lost to weather this season. Each Conference USA team plays one non-conference, weekend series during league play, and this weekend was the Blazers' turn in the rotation.
UAB now turns its attention to next week's home-and-home series with Jacksonville State. The Blazers will travel to Jacksonville, Ala., on Tuesday and then host the Gamecocks on Wednesday. Houston then pays a visit to Birmingham next weekend as the Blazers resume conference play with a three-game series.
