BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB softball team travels to Chattanooga Wednesday to take on the Mocs for a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. ET.
Wednesday's opener will mark the 14th time the two teams have met. In their meeting last season in Birmingham, the two teams split a doubleheader. The Mocs claimed the first game, 4-2, before the Blazers took the second game, 5-1. UAB leads the all-time series, 8-6.
UAB (25-12, 8-4 C-USA) has won eight of its last 11 decisions, including a ninth-inning victory over cross-town foe Samford Tuesday night at UAB Softball Field. A successful squeeze play by sophomore Catherine Douglass plated Kayla Orr in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Blazers past the Bulldogs, 4-3.
Sophomore Amber Torres tossed a season-high six strikeouts in six innings of work before freshman pitcher Lauren Webster (12-4) stepped in and surrendered just one hit and retired four batters in the win.
Sophomore Mandy Lowman leads the Blazers offensively, hitting at a .369 clip. The Huntsville, Ala., native has also knocked five doubles, nine home runs and a team-high 26 RBI.
Chattanooga (31-9, 12-0 SoCon) is currently on a 13-game winning streak. Last weekend, the Mocs swept a three-game series with conference foe Georgia Southern. Chattanooga claimed Saturday's doubleheader, before edging the Eagles, 5-4, in 11 innings Sunday.
Lyndsey Stiles leads the Mocs with a .366 batting average, while Tiffany Baker has smacked eight doubles and has registered a team-high 31 RBI.
In the circle for Chattanooga, Brooke Loudermilk (15-6) has posted a 1.83 ERA in 31 appearances and has retired 177 batters in 137.2 innings of work.
