BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB softball team hosts cross-town foe Samford for a contest Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT at UAB Softball Field.
Tuesday's matchup marks the second time the two teams have met this season. In their last meeting at the Magic City Classic on Feb. 27, UAB claimed an 8-2 victory. The Blazers posted 10 hits, including home runs from Cameron Skates, Kayla Orr and Kate Armstrong, in the win. The Blazers lead the all-time series against the Bulldogs, 19-4.
UAB (24-12, 8-4 C-USA) is currently in a four-way tie for second place in Conference USA after claiming a series against East Carolina last weekend. The Blazers shut out the Pirates twice to sweep Saturday's doubleheader, before falling, 2-0, Sunday.
Sophomore Mandy Lowman leads the Blazers offensively, batting .370 with five doubles, nine home runs and a team-high 26 RBI. The Huntsville, Ala., native was also key behind the plate for the Blazers in last weekend's series opener, picking off the Pirates' lead runner in scoring position in the bottom of the 11th to clinch UAB's 2-0 victory.
In the circle for the Blazers, freshman Lauren Webster (11-4) posted a 0.58 ERA in last week's seven-game stretch and notched two shutouts. Junior Alisha Smith (8-7) pitched an 11-inning shutout against East Carolina Saturday and has registered a 2.09 ERA for the season.
Samford (11-22, 2-10 SoCon) fell to Auburn, 13-0, in its last outing on April 7. The Tigers put up 10 runs in the first inning and held the Bulldogs to just one hit for the game.
Leading head coach Beanie Ketcham's squad at the plate, Robyn Harmon is hitting at a .388 clip, while Alex Adams has recorded a team-high 20 RBI.
Harmon (3-3) has also tossed to team-low 2.10 ERA in 16 appearances, while Stephanie Royall (6-5) has thrown three shutouts in 20 appearances to record a 2.88 ERA.
