BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB track and field team will continue its outdoor season at the annual Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa, Ala. March 27-28.
The meet gets underway Saturday at 10:30 a.m. CT for the Blazers as senior Kristina Olsen runs in the 5,000m at the Sam Bailey Track & Field Complex. The Green and Gold will compete in multiple events including the 100m hurdles, 100m, 800m, high jump, 200m, 400m hurdles, 1500m and wrap up the day with the 400m at 5:05 p.m.
The Blazers will return Sunday for a full slate of relay events that start at 11:30 a.m. with the shuttle hurdle relay and concludes after the 4x400m relay that kicks off at 3:40 p.m.
"We are really ready to get into the bulk of the outdoor season," UAB interim head coach Kurt Thomas said. "UAB has always performed well at the Bama Relays and I expect the girls to come out and do so again this year. We have so many Alabama girls on our team that it gives their families an opportunity to watch them compete, which is always motivating."
A total of 27 teams will be competing this weekend in Tuscaloosa, including C-USA foe Southern Miss, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Auburn, Cincinnati, Indiana and host Alabama.
"There are some really good teams coming this year and that should only push us to be ready and compete at our best," Thomas said. "We are only running in select events on Saturday, leaving Sunday to have everyone run on relays, have some fun and get some good races in to start the season."
At last year's Alabama Relays, sophomore Kristina Vaughn and senior Kendel Hood were members of the 4x1500m relay team that recorded a first-place finish and broke the 10-year old UAB record with a time of 18:56.09.
Fans can track UAB's results through the CFPI timing website both Saturday and Sunday.
