HOUSTON --- The UAB track and field team concluded the Conference USA Indoor Championships hosted by Houston Saturday.
After winning the pentathlon Friday to become a two-time C-USA champion, junior Nora Mehl placed third in the high jump with a leap of 1.75m (5-08.75).
"Congrats to Nora again," UAB interim head coach Kurt Thomas said. "We're very proud of her. She competed well today, placing third in the high jump after a tough day in the pentathlon yesterday."
Out of the 12 C-USA teams competing for the meet's title, UTEP claimed first with 113.50 points. Rice and Houston rounded out the top three finishers, and UAB placed ninth.
Sophomore Rhiannon Johns ran to an eighth-place finish in the 3000m with a time of 9:46.59. Fellow sophomore Clara Cid placed 15th (10:07.32).
"Rhiannon ran really well today after running a personal-record in the 5K yesterday," Thomas said. "It shows the depth of the conference when you run a great race and finish eighth."
In the triple jump, junior Samantha Hamilton took ninth with a leap of 12.05m (39-06.50).
"We had a lot of athletes compete well this weekend," Thomas said. "Sometimes things don't go your way. We're still a young team, and we're going to learn from our mistakes and come back stronger next year. I'm also looking forward to seeing what our team can do during the outdoor season."
The Blazers will be back in action at the Notre Dame Last Chance Qualifier in South Bend, Ind. on March 6.
