BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Mandy Lowman, a sophomore catcher on the Blazer softball team, has been chosen as the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
Lowman was named to the all-tournament team over the weekend at Mississippi State's Bulldog Round-Robin after hitting .500 (6-for-12) for the tournament. The Huntsville, Ala. product blasted three home runs over four games while also posting five RBI and three runs scored as the Blazers went 2-2.
In the classroom, Lowman is a 4.0 student as a secondary education major. She has earned Presidential Honors in each of her three semesters at UAB and received the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal last year. She was also one of eight Blazer softball players named All-America Scholar-Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) in 2009.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Sunday night on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:05 p.m. on ABC 33/40.
Lowman and the UAB softball team (2-2) return to action this weekend with four games at the South Alabama Invitational in Mobile, Ala. The Blazers open the event Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT against Northwestern State.
