Clemson, S.C. -- The UAB distance athletes competed in two events Saturday at the Tiger Paw Invitational and won both. Sophomore Lauren Fayen claimed the 800m title, and sophomore Rhiannon Johns ran to a first-place finish in the 3000m.
In the 800m Fayen clocked a time of 2:14.77 to take the title, while junior Bianca Le'Blanc finished runner-up with a time of 2:14.89.
"Both Lauren and Bianca ran great races," UAB assistant track and field coach Blake Boldon said. "Lauren led the race from the moment the gun went off and looked confident and in control the entire race. The final 200m was the fastest part of the race for both girls which is a testament to their fitness."
Sophomore Lucy Taylor finished 21st with a time of 2:23.53.
In the 3000m, Johns ran to a time of 9:40.86 to take first place.
"Rhiannon ran the second-fastest 3000m in UAB history," Boldon said. "She looked fluid and confident the entire race and is very close to provisionally qualifying for the NCAA meet."
Senior Kristina Olsen placed fifth with a time of 10:31.39, while junior Stephanie Gammon claimed 13th with a time of 10:40.32.
The UAB track and field team returns to action Feb. 20 at the LSU Twilight in Baton Rouge, La.
