GERMANTOWN, Tenn. -- The UAB women's golf team took home seventh place at the Memphis Women's Invitational at Ridgeway Country Club. The Blazers carded a 311 in the second round on Tuesday, tying the third-best score in the final round of action.
The tournament was originally scheduled for 54 holes but shortened to 36 due to impending weather. After shooting a 322 in the first round, the Blazers finished with a team score of 633.
"We played really well in the second round," head coach Kim Wilcox said. "The first round was tough because our practice round was rained out and there were some tricky spots on the course we weren't familiar with."
Senior Jaime Brabb and sophomore Jaime Ritter tied for seventh with a 36-hole total of 153. Brabb carded rounds of 78 and 75, while Ritter shot a 77 and 76. Senior Carolyn Cochran finished two strokes behind the duo with a score of 155, tying for 16th place. Sophomore Lindsey Gipson rounded out the Blazers' scoring with a 36-total of 172.
Illinois took home the team title with a score of 615, shooting a 301 in the second round to win the tournament. Memphis and Missouri State tied for second with a total of 621.
UAB returns to action next week, hosting the UAB Fall Beach Blast at the Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club in Gulf Shores, Ala. Play begins Tuesday and the 36-hole tournament will conclude Wednesday.
