Blazers Conclude Day One at UAB Fall Beach Blast

GULF SHORES, Ala.-- The UAB women's golf team finished day one at the 2010 UAB Fall Beach Blast in seventh place at the Peninsula and Racquet Club. Senior Carolyn Cochran paced the Blazers with a score of 74 to tie for seventh place after the first round.
"It was kind of a rough day for us," UAB head coach Kim Wilcox said. "We just didn't perform as well as we have been in previous tournaments this year."
Memphis is currently in the top spot with a team score of 292. Marshall and Louisiana-Monroe each shot a 301 to tie for second.
Louisiana-Monroe's Ali Lucas carded an 18-hole total of 70 to lead the field in round one. Marshall's Allison Harper and Memphis' Sarah Mathews finished two strokes behind Lucas with a round of 72 to tie for second after the first round.
UAB senior Jaime Brabb finished with the second-best total for the Blazers at 78, while sophomore Ana Martin recorded an 80. Lindsey Gipson finished with a score of 83, and Ashley Looney rounded out the scoring for UAB with an 85.
Play resumes for the final round on Tuesday with a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m.
