BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB football team opened its practice week Tuesday morning as the Blazers began preparations for this Saturday's non-conference game at Texas A&M.
Because of wet conditions at the UAB practice facility, the Blazers moved Tuesday's session to the artificial surface at Legion Field, where they worked out for two hours.
"It was a good practice with good tempo and good energy," UAB head coach Neil Callaway said. "We still have some kinks to work out, but I thought it was a good practice."
The Blazers (1-2) are gearing up for their trip to College Station, Texas, and looking to snap a two-game losing skid after winning their season opener. UAB dropped a 27-13 decision this past Saturday at Troy.
In Texas A&M (2-0), UAB will face an opponent with a high-powered and balanced offense. The Aggies are averaging 352 yards through the air and 258 yards on the ground through their opening two games against New Mexico and Utah State.
"They have a couple speed guys, so we have to make sure we're ready for it," Callaway said. "Their quarterback is a big, strong-armed guy. They're going to run play acton and try to take some shots down field."
This weekend's meeting will be the first between the teams and the 10th for UAB against a Big 12 opponent. The Blazers are 2-7 in the previous nine contests.
UAB and Texas A&M will kick off at 6:05 p.m. CT Saturday at Kyle Field. The game will be carried on the Blazers ISP Sports Network and can be heard in the Birmingham area on flagship station WUHT-FM 107.7.
