BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- MacKenzie Wilson, a sophomore member of the Blazer volleyball team, has been named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
A native Huntsville, Ala., Wilson has earned high marks in the classroom, where she owns a cumulative 4.0 GPA as a molecular biology major. In her first year at UAB, she earned presidential honors and was recognized on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Wilson has split time at the setter position early this season, averaging 4.29 assists per set for UAB. The former Gatorade Player of the Year in Alabama played mostly a defensive role last year, averaging 1.84 digs per set as a freshman for the Blazers' 2008 NCAA tournament team.
Wilson has helped UAB to a 2-1 start to the 2009 campaign. The Blazers are coming off a Tuesday victory over Jacksonville State and are back in action this weekend with four matches at the Magnolia Invitational hosted by Ole Miss.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Sunday night on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:35 p.m. on ABC 33/40.
