UAB Travels To Tulsa For Conference USA Series

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB softball team (12-24, 4-11 C-USA) will travel to Tulsa, Okla. to take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (23-14, 7-4 C-USA) for a three-game series, beginning with a doubleheader at 3 p.m. CT on Friday.
The all-time series record between the two teams is tied at 6-6. The Blazers have won the last two contests, including an extra inning 3-2 victory last season in Birmingham, Ala. Fomer Blazer, Jennifer Nelson was able to clinch the victory with a two-RBI, two-out double in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The last time out, UAB was able to split a doubleheader with Western Kentucky on Tuesday. After committing five errors in an 8-2 loss, the Blazers bounced back in the second game to win, 5-2. Freshman Catherine Douglass led the Green and Gold in the win after going 3-for-3 at the plate with 3 RBI and 1 run scored. Freshman Maegan Hornsby recorded two hits and two runs in the win. Freshman pitcher Lindsey Croft (6-13) picked up the win after going all seven innings and striking out four.
Tulsa enters the contest after splitting a doubleheader with Wichita State on Thursday. In the first game, the Golden Hurricane's Jackie Lawerence held the Shockers to one hit and struck out nine en route to an 8-0 victory. Lauren Lindsay and Lauren Menke each hit two-run home runs in the win. Tulsa dropped the second contest, 4-2.
Lindsay leads Tulsa with a .385 batting average, eight home runs and 25 RBI on the season. Brooke Smart is second on the team with a .357 batting average and has a team-high .484 on base percentage. Five players are hitting over .300 on the year. As a team, the Golden Hurricane is hitting .280.
Lawerence is 10-4 in the pitcher's circle with a 1.78 ERA. In 98.1 innings pitched, she has struck out 90, walked 45 and is holding opponents to a .178 batting average. Tulsa's team-ERA is 2.74 and opponents are batting .217 against the Golden Hurricane's pitching staff.
