UAB Wraps Up Day Two Of Sea Ray Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The UAB track and field team wrapped up the second day of the Sea Ray Relays here on Thursday with Nora Mehl and Timara McMillan finishing third and sixth, respectively, after finishing well in the second half of the heptathlon. Wednesday's events consisted of the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run.
Mehl finished the day with a total of 4,715 points, while McMillan recorded a new personal best of 4,554 points. Kentucky's Ashley Trimble claimed first place with 5,438 points and Kirby Blackley took second with 5,091 points as a unattached athlete.
McMillan started the day off with a third-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.60m. Mehl finished right behind McMillan in fourth place with a new personal best of 5.39m in the event.
Mehl followed up her performance in the long jump with a new personal best and another third-place finish in the javelin throw. Her throw of 31.73m smashed her previous best of 28.32m set last season. McMillan turned in a distance of 23.35m and finished seventh.
The 800-meter run was the day's final event and Mehl was able to post a fifth-place finish with a time of 2:31.79. McMillan finished ninth in 2:43.26.
The rest of the Blazers' track and field team will begin competition tomorrow at 11:15 p.m. CT.
