BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Women's golfer Alyson Mitchell has been selected as the UAB Scholar-Athlete of the Week. A solid contributer for the Blazers on the course, Mitchell has also been a consistent performer in the classroom.
Mitchell was UAB's second-highest individual finisher last weekend for the Blazers, firing a 54-hole score of 249 as the team opened its spring season at the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational. The senior from Troy, Ala., has been a part of the Blazer lineup for the past three years and posted her highest career finishes in 2006-07 when she tied for sixth place at both the Birmingham Tri-Match and the Lady Eagle Classic.
Academically, Mitchell carries an overall GPA of 3.36 as a communication studies major. She has managed a GPA of 3.46 in her three years at UAB since transferring to the school from Birmingham-Southern following her freshman season. Mitchell was recognized last season on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and continued her strong work in the classroom during the recent fall semester, earning a spot on the Dean's List at UAB.
Mitchell and her women's golf teammates return to the course March 12-13 when they travel to Citrus Springs, Fla., for the EKU El Diablo Intercollegiate.
