Hey Blazer Softball Fans!!!
Just wanted to give you all an update on how the season is going. Last time I talked to you all we were hosting the Alabama Crimson Tide at home for the breast cancer awareness game. The turnout was great. Unfortunately we lost the game 6-3, but I know the team learned a lot from the game. The next team we hosted at home was Saint Louis on March 11. The first game definitely did not go how we planned. We came out very flat as a team and we did not have the right mindset in order to win the game. We loss 9-1. However, we are always a team that can bounce back from anything and we took the next game 6-5 with two back-to-back homeruns by Andrea Rogers and Amanda Allen. The difference in the two games was our mental game. We have a great team with great ability, but we have to be heads up on our opponents mentally.
Next we took a trip to Orlando, Florida to play the UCF. While we were there we got to go to one of the Atlanta Braves spring training games, which was really fun. They are my favorite professional baseball team and Chipper Jones is my favorite player!! We also went to Islands of Adventure for the day and it was awesome. I am not the biggest fan of roller coasters but I know that everyone on the team had a great time! On Saturday we played a double header against UCF. We lost the first game, 7-0, and won the second game, 7-4. The difference in the games was that our bats showed up in the second game. If we can always have our bats going then we are going to be a very tough team to beat. The game we played on Sunday was a very intense game. The Knights had a 4-0 lead in the fifth inning. In the sixth inning we really brought the bats out and scored five runs giving us the lead in the sixth. However, UCF was able to score two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, and we never were able to catch up and fell, 6-5. Even though we did not win the series I had a really good time. My favorite thing was that my grandparent and my aunt got to watch me play at the collegiate level. I believe the last time they saw me play was back when I was eight or nine, so getting to see them was great!
This past weekend we hosted East Carolina at home. None of the games went our way. ECU swept all three games in the series. I know as a team we learned a lot, but the main thing is that in order to be successful we will always have to be prepared. You can never come to a game expecting to win. In order to win you will have to bring your "A" game and nothing less.
This past Tuesday, we hosted Mississippi State at home. We played a really good game and hit the ball very well just not enough to win. We lost the game 9-7. I know all the girls played very hard and never gave up and that is all you can ask. This weekend we are hosting UTEP at home. Hopefully the rain will hold off so we will be able to play our games tomorrow. Please come out and support us, the more fans the better!!
Also I would like to ask a favor from all of our fans. A very special man that holds a dear place in my heart will be leaving April 5th to go to Afghanistan. He is in the United States Marine Corps and will be serving the country over there for ten months. I ask that you will keep him in your prayers. Pray that God gives him the strength and knowledge that he needs and that God will keep him and his fellow troops safe and bring them back home soon. We all thank you for your service and the sacrifice that you are willing to make every day!
