Blazers In 12th Following 18 Holes At Samford Intercollegiate

ONEONTA, Ala. - The UAB women's golf team shot a 333 over 18 holes on a rainy day one of the Samford Intercollegiate on Monday. The Blazers, who were led by senior Christina Wentworth with a first-round score of 80, are in 12th place entering Tuesday's final round of competition at the 6,000-yard, par-72 Limestone Springs Golf Club.
The tournament, which was originally slated for 54 holes, will now be shortened to 36 holes due to the inclement weather on Monday. The teams only played 18 holes on Monday instead of the 36 holes that were scheduled. The event will wrap up with the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
Host-school Samford is leading the field of 15 teams after shooting a 305 on day one. The Bulldogs were paced by Katelyn Stanier, who is in front in the individual standings with a 71.
Jacksonville State is in second place after carding a 307, followed by South Alabama and Murray State tied for third at 312.
Wentworth shot an 80 on Monday to pace UAB and tie for 32nd overall. Fellow senior Alyson Mitchell is tied for 50th after tallying an 83.
Sophomore Lindsay Taylor recorded an 84 to tie for 54th place and sophomore Jaime Brabb is tied for 64th with an 18-hole score of 86. Freshman Kristin Lottman rounded out UAB's efforts with a 89 to tie for 69th.
The second and final round of competition will begin at 9 a.m. CT on Tuesday.
