BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB softball team will resume play in Conference USA as it travels to Orlando, Fla. to take on UCF in a three-game series this weekend. The Blazers are 9-12 overall and 2-1 in C-USA. The Knights are 14-14 on the season and 0-3 in league play.
The last time out, UAB split a doubleheader with Saint Louis on Wednesday. The Blazers lost the first game, 9-1, before rallying back with help from back-to-back home runs by Andrea Rogers and Amanda Allen to steal the win 6-5.
UCF enters the three-game series on a six-game losing streak. After dropping a three-game series against Tulsa last weekend, the Knights fell to Ball State, 1-0, and Kennesaw State, 3-1, in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday.
The Blazers hold the all-time series advantage, 5-4, but the Knights have won the last two meetings. Last season, UAB won the first game of a doubleheader in Birmingham, Ala., 2-0, before losing to UCF in the nightcap, 3-2, and on the following day, 2-0.
Last season UCF won the C-USA Softball Championship and posted a 49-20 overall record and a 16-7 mark in league play.
Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. CT at the UCF Softball Complex in Orlando, Fla. The series will wrap up on Sunday with a single game scheduled to start at 11:00 p.m. CT.
