Track Team Finishes First Day At Meyo Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. ----- Freshman Rhiannon Johns finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run here Friday to highlight the UAB women's track team's first-day performance at the 22nd Annual Meyo Invitational.
Johns clocked a time of 17:29.35 in the 5,000. Emily Borsare of Louisville won the event at 16:51.70.
In other UAB performances on Friday's first day of competion, Nora Mehl was 18th in the high jump with a best of 5-5. Erica Whitby was 21st for the Blazers at 5-3.
Senior Timara McMillan placed 18th in the long jump with a leap of 17-11. Teammate Christina Chambers was 30th at 15-4.
In the 300-meter dash UAB's Veronia Johnson finished 23rd with a time of 41.52 as Notre Dame's Joanna Schultz won the race at 38.37. The Blazers' Adrienne Bradley was 35th at 42.69.
Christina Chambers was one of three UAB runners to place in the 500-meter dash. She took 29th at 1:19.64 in a race won by Eastern Michigan's Sade St. Louis (1:14.60). The Blazers' Funderlethia Pruitt was 32nd with a time of 1:21.82 while Bianca LeBlanc placed 33rd at 1:24.83.
In the 1,000-meter run, Colleen Standbridge finished 22nd with a time of 3:01.95. Teammates Lucy Taylor (3:02.92) and Kristina Vaughn (3:03.91) placed 26th and 29th, respectively, for UAB.
The meet continues Saturday at the Loftus Center on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.
