BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB freshman defender Emily Sinovich received high school All-America honors as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Sinovich led Incarnate Word Academy in St. Louis, Mo., to the state championship in 2008 before joining the Blazers this fall. She is among an elite group as one of just seven high school defenders in the nation to receive accolades.
"I'm thrilled to see Emily selected as having been one of the absolute best high school players in the country," UAB head coach Paul Harbin said. "She did extremely well for us this fall while playing against one of the most competitive schedules in college soccer. Without a doubt, she is very deserving of this award and has a great future ahead of her."
Sinovich played in 18 matches for UAB during the 2009 season, starting eight, and she was one of the key reasons UAB collected seven shutouts on the season. The O'Fallon, Mo., native scored her first collegiate goal against Pacific on Sept. 6, a game-tying goal that eventually propelled the Blazers to their sixth straight win.
