TROY, Ala. -- Jordan McDonald and Alison Woods each recorded double-doubles Tuesday night as the UAB volleyball team picked up a non-conference, road win with a 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 26-28, 25-15) victory at Troy.
UAB improved to 14-14 overall with the win, while Troy dropped to 11-16. The Blazers will remain on the road for a pair of Conference USA matches this weekend, playing Friday night at Marshall and Sunday afternoon at East Carolina.
In Tuesday's win, McDonald finished with 12 kills and 15 digs, while Woods handed out 53 assists and added 12 digs. For McDonald, Tuesday's performance marked her fourth consecutive double-double.
Sam Serley led the way for UAB offensively with 18 kills, and Andrea Lalic managed 16 while hitting for a .462 percentage.
Libero Heather Thomas posted 22 digs as she reached the 20-dig plateau for the 14th time this season. Thomas now has 520 digs on the year and has moved into second place on the Blazers' single-season digs chart. In Tuesday's match, she surpassed Brianna Galvin's 2007 total of 518. She now only trails Galvin's 2006 total of 592.
"At times tonight we played well, and at times we didn't," UAB head coach Kerry Messersmith said. "I thought Sam came in and did a nice job for us offensively, and it was another good night like we've come to expect from Heather defensively."
Troy was led offensively by Meghan Gilroy's 22 kills and Megan Henderson's 45 assists. Emily Strader led three Trojans in double-digit digs with 16.
After dominating the first two sets, UAB found itself in an eight-point hole in the third frame. The Blazers trailed 19-11 before mounting a massive comeback to eventually tie things up at 24-24 on a kill from Serley. UAB earned a match point at 26-25 following back-to-back kills from Pegg and Serley, but Troy responded with three points in a row to send the match to a fourth set.
UAB, however, pulled through to finish it in four. The Blazers hit .324 in the set, led by four kills from Lalic and three each from Serley and McDonald. UAB led by as many as 11 points in the frame and finished with a 10-point margin.
The Blazers have now won three of their past four matches and have four contests remaining in the regular season. Tuesday's match was the Blazers' final non-conference contest of the year.
