BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Aaron Warren, a right-handed pitcher from Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, Ga., recently signed a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period to attend UAB and compete for the Blazer baseball program.
As a junior this past spring, Warren earned second-team all-county honors at Sandy Creek for coach Eddie Householder. Listed at 6-foot-7, 190 pounds, Warren went 5-2 on the mound with a 3.32 ERA. He recorded 41 strikeouts while walking just four batters in 44 1/3 innings of work.
"Aaron Warren is a young man who has unlimited potential," UAB head coach Brian Shoop said. "We think he will develop into something very special and will be someone that Conference USA hitters are not excited about facing.
"Maybe the best thing about Aaron is that he is a strike-thrower, with the ability to pound the strike zone with all three pitches. The ability to consistently throw strikes with multiple pitches sets him above most young pitchers and will be the ingredient that will make him successful at the college level."
Warren played summer baseball for the Home Plate Chili Dogs, coached by Lloyd Thompson and Rodney Dickinson, out of Peachtree City, Ga. This past summer, he logged a 6-1 record for the Chili Dogs with 44 strikeouts and nine walks in 40 innings. He held opponents during the summer to a .217 batting average. Warren pitched for the team in the 17-and-under World Wood Bat Association national tournament in East Cobb, Ga.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Warren, Aaron Warren will finish his senior year at Sandy Creek this coming spring and then enroll at UAB for the 2010-11 academic year.
"We also think Aaron is a special young man off the field," Shoop said. "He comes from another great family, and he will fit in with the type of young men we are attracting to our program. We are very pleased that he is joining our Blazer baseball family.
