BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Menanteau Moolman, one of the top junior players in South Africa, has committed to join the UAB women's tennis program.
Moolman will enroll at UAB in January and be eligible to compete for the Blazers in the upcoming 2010 spring season.
"Menanteau brings an abundance of talent and experience to our program," UAB head coach Krissy Hall said. "She has a proven track record of success both on and off the court, and we are looking forward to continuing her success at UAB. I expect Menanteau to contribute immediately in both singles and doubles."
Moolman comes to UAB with a wealth of international experience. She has been chosen to play on provincial and national teams since 2003 and has played in various junior International Tennis Federation tournaments worldwide. She is ranked first in South Africa in doubles and ninth in singles, while her personal-best ITF ranking is 550.
A three-year captain of her high school team, Moolman has been part of one of the most succesful programs in South Africa at Bloemhof Girls' High School. Bloemhof has won the Amanda Coetzer National Tournament for nine straight years, and Moolman has been a key player on four of those championship teams.
"I am thrilled to have Menanteau joining our team in January," Hall said. "She displays all the characteristics we are looking for in our student-athletes both as a tennis player and a person."
In addition to her on-court success, Moolman was ranked 18th in her high school class at Bloemhof, one of the top academic schools in South Africa.
