BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB track and field team heads to East Tennessee State University on Friday to compete in the Niswonger Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn. After beginning the campaign by finishing tied for fourth at the Houston Opener, the Blazers are looking to continue their early season success.
"There is some good competition at this meet," said UAB track and field head coach Ray Stanfield. "It will give everyone a chance to run and compete. It also will give us a chance to prepare for Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational."
The Blazers will face more than 30 teams, including Conference USA opponents East Carolina and Marshall, during the two-day meet. Other schools scheduled to compete include Georgia, Wake Forest, Kennesaw State, Georgia Southern and Western Carolina.
Last year at the Niswonger Invitational, the Blazers captured 10 top-three finishes, including a one-two finish in the distance medley relay.
The meet will be held on the David E. Walker Track inside the Memorial Center and will begin Friday morning with the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles and conclude Saturday evening with the 4x400 meter relay.
