Blazers Perfect Saturday At Samford Winter Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's tennis team got off to a fast start Saturday at the Samford Winter Invitational as the Blazers won every match they played.
In the flighted, round-robin tournament, UAB players matched up with Jacksonville State players on Saturday. The Blazers came out on top in all eight matches (five singles and three doubles).
Evelien Strijker, Giorgia Romeo, Brittany DeFelice, Jenny Cape and Ceylan Engin each picked up singles wins, while the duos of Strijker/Romeo, DeFelice/Cape and Engin/Jess Orton earned doubles victories.
"I thought our girls played well today," UAB head coach Krissy Hall said. "It's a good start to our weekend, but we still have a lot of tennis left to play."
The Blazers continue with two more rounds of matches Sunday at Samford's Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion. Sunday's action, which was originally scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., has been pushed back to a 10 a.m. start.
In addition to UAB and Jacksonville State, the invitational also features Memphis and host Samford.
