BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's tennis team travels to Auburn, Ala., Friday for the first day of the Auburn Winter Invitational.
The Blazers will join Georgia State, Conference USA foe Southern Miss and the host Tigers at the tournament, which will be played at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn.
The event marks the Blazers' return to match competition for the first time since the conclusion of their fall season at the ITA South Regional in late October. This weekend's event is the first of two early-season invitationals before UAB gets into the heart of its dual-match schedule in February.
"We are approaching this weekend as a chance to work on some things and to get back into match mode," UAB head coach Krissy Hall said. "We're going to try to figure out some doubles teams and prepare for our spring season."
Evelien Strijker, a third-team all-conference selection from a year ago, leads UAB into the event. The sophomore is coming off an impressive fall campaign that included a 6-2 singles record and a run to the finals of the A singles flight at the UNF Fall Invitational.
