BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Trey Early, a 2008 Under Armour Preseason All-American infielder from Daphne, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball at UAB next season. Early is a four-time all-county selection and has hit 17 home runs and hit better than .400 for his scholastic career.
"We are very pleased that Trey Early will be joining the Blazer baseball family next fall," said UAB head coach Brian Shoop. "Trey is a gifted player on both sides of the ball. He is athletic and will continue to help our efforts to defend the field better. He is also an outstanding hitter who can drive the gaps and will provide excellent speed on the bases. Trey will also bring a winning attitude after having so much success at Daphne High School. He has been well-coached and should challenge for playing time immediately"
Early attended the Under Armour All-American Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. and was invited to attend the East Coast Professional Showcase in the summer of 2007.
As a freshman at Decatur High School under head coach Mike Burns, Early hit .389 with four homers and 24 RBI.
He went on to hit .397 with two home runs and 28 RBI as a sophomore at Daphne High School under head coach Joe Hutchins. For his junior season at Daphne, he hit .378 with five home runs and 35 RBI.
Currently playing his senior season, Early is batting .486 with six home runs and 24 RBI.
"Trey is also the right match as a student and as a person," Shoop said. "He has been raised in special family and will be a great role model for all the young players who follow our program. Trey has the mental toughness needed to play in this league. He is a great addition to Blazer baseball."
