HEY BLAZER FANS!
This past weekend was a really good one for us. We won both games, improving our conference record to 3-3.
On Friday morning, we started the day off by eating breakfast at our favorite local bagel place. It gave us the chance to start the morning off as a team by eating a good breakfast. Later in the day we ate sandwiches as a pregame meal and then had a team meeting where Coach Harbin emphasized the things that we needed to focus on in order to beat Rice. Although it may sound funny, one of the things he told us was to allow ourselves to be a team by loving one another and letting ourselves be loved. That small piece of advice really translated to the field and to life and has helped us improve our relationships on and off the field. We were all really pumped up for our game because Rice beat us in the conference tournament last year and we wanted some revenge. We came out really strong and Laura McCalla scored our first goal in the second minute of the game. Laura and Tiffini Turpin ended the game with 2 goals each, and Allison Belsterling had one, making the final score 5-2.
On Saturday, we had a light, fun practice to help us recover from the night before and begin to focus on Sunday's game against Houston. That night, we went to Fire & Ice to celebrate Marie Yempuku's birthday, which was on the 8th.
On Sunday morning, we went to get bagels again for our pregame meal and then came back to Bartow to have our team meeting. Laura started us out early again by scoring in the eighth minute of the game. Later, Carolyn Polcari scored on a penalty kick that came when Houston fouled Tiffini. Tiffini then scored our last two goals of the game which made the final score 4-1.
It's really exciting to win both games on the weekend and I can't wait to do it again this weekend. We will be away, so think positive thoughts for us when we play Tulsa Friday night and SMU Sunday afternoon!
