BIRMINGHAHM, Ala. - UAB head baseball coach Brian Shoop has been announced as one of four inductees into the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be held Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Marriott Hotel on Highway 280.
Shoop is a member of the association's ninth induction class, joining Hank Furlow (Stanhope-Elmore HS), Mike Estes (Hokes Bluff HS) and Wayne Larker (Faulkner State CC) as 2008 inductees.
Shoop has compiled 717 career victories throughout his 18-year career, 692 of which came while at the helm of the Birmingham-Southern program where he led the Panthers to the 2001 NAIA National Championship.
His clubs averaged 41 wins a season at Birmingham-Southern and captured nine regular season conference titles and eight conference tournament crowns.
In his first season at UAB in 2007, Shoop led the Blazers to a 12-12 league record and fourth place finish in Conference USA to match the program's highest ever finish in the league standings.
Shoop has previously been honored as an ABCA Coach of the Year and is a member of the Malone (Ohio) College Athletic Hall of Fame.
