BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Ivana Bozic, a junior outside hitter on the UAB volleyball team, has been named this week's UAB Scholar-Athlete of the Week. In addition to her leadership on the court, Bozic has excelled in the classroom and in the community. Holding a GPA of better than 3.0, Bozic has joined her teammates in assisting the Koman Foundation in the fight against breast cancer through the UAB volleyball `Dig for the Cure' campaign.
On the court, Bozic was an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America honorable mention in 2006, in addition to being named Preseason All-Conference USA. She helped lead the Blazers to their first-ever Conference USA Tournament title in 2006, a run that earned her tournament MVP honors.
Bozic averaged 4.90 kills per game last season, helping UAB make its first appearance all-time in the NCAA Division I Tournament.
The Serbia & Montenegro native and her Blazer teammates travel to Nashville, Tenn., this weekend for the Music City/Magic City Invitational where they will take on Belmont and Lipscomb on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
Bozic is a computer science major at UAB.
