METAIRIE, La. ----- The Tulane Green Wave bounced back after losing games one and two to edge out the UAB Blazers, 2-1, at Zephyr Field Sunday afternoon. UAB junior first baseman Ryan Keedy was 2-for-3 as was sophomore designated hitter Allen Aubin.
UAB is now 20-29 (7-11 C-USA) with the loss and Tulane saw its record go to 30-20 (9-12 C-USA).
The Blazers had won the second game of the series earlier in the day, rallying for a 4-2 win and assuring themselves of at least two victories in the three-game series during the weekend.
Blazer junior right-hander Dustin Colburn (3-3) got the loss after going 3.1 innings in which he allowed two runs and struck out three.
Tulane left-hander Aaron Loup (1-0) earned the win with his 4.1 innings of work. Loup struck out five and allowed just one run in the game. Righty Sean Morgan got his first save of the season after closing out the ninth.
Green Wave first baseman Tim Guidry led the club with his 2-for-3 performance with an RBI, while catcher Ty Wallace was 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Tulane scored one run in the second when second baseman Seth Henry walked and then stole second and moved on to third after senior catcher Danny Sawyer's throw went on to center field. Henry eventually scored on an RBI single to left field by catcher Ty Wallace.
The Blazers tied the game, 1-1, in the fourth when senior third baseman Ryne Lovdahl hit a two-out single to left field and then later came in to score on a single by junior second baseman Tyler Rollin.
Tulane responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the fourth to regain to lead, 2-1. Left fielder Nate Simon singled through the right side and then scored on an RBI single through the left side by first baseman Tim Guidry.
UAB threatened in the top of the fifth, but failed to get a run in as Lovdahl grounded in to an inning-ending bases loaded fielder's choice to short.
Trying to make one last comeback, Bond reach on an error at second in the seventh and was then replaced by senior Steven Turner who stole second and then advanced to third on a throwing error. Turner was left stranded at third as the Green Wave got the final two outs of the game.
UAB takes to the field again on Tuesday when it travels to play its final non-conference game of the season at Troy at 6 p.m. The Blazers beat the Trojans 7-6 at Young Memorial Field earlier this season.
