UAB Track Team Concludes Competition At Meyo Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. ----- UAB's Tara Colvin and Stephanie McCauley each raced to a pair of top-seven finishes in sprint events here Saturday as the Blazers concluded competition at the 20th Annual Meyo Invitational.
The meet was held at Loftus Sports Center/Meyo Track on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.
Colvin, a junior from Tuscaloosa, Ala., ran to a third-place finish in the 300-meter dash (39.59) and a sixth-place effort in the 400 (55.49). Meanwhile, McCauley placed in fifth in the 60-meter dash and was seventh in the 200. The Huntsville, Ala. senior's time in the 60 was 7.39 while she clocked a 24.80 in the 200.
The Blazers had a busy day with numerous competitors in running events. In the 800-meter run, UAB's Alina Varpiotaite was 14th at 2:12.52 while teammate Genoah Collins palced 17th with a time of 2:14.38.
Freshman Kendel Hood finished 33rd (5:07.85) in the Mile Run with Whitney Mays two places behind in 35th at 5:08.39.
In the 3,000-mile run, Blazer junior Elizabeth Hilligoss led a large group of UAB runners with a 20th place showing at 10:00.67. Mays was 26th at 10:10.88, Ryanne Fortney 34th at 10:16.57, Katie Stepp in 36th place at 10:17.98, Jennifer Thompson in 40th at 10:22.88, Kristina Olsen in 45th at 10:33.19 and Elizabeth Ambrus in 48th 10:42.99.
Senior Erin Harris placed seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 39-5 ¼ while teammate Deborah Hawkins was 10th at 38-7 ¾. UAB's 4x400-meter relay team placed third in the meet.
