UAB Travels To Chattanooga For Doubleheader

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB softball team heads to Chattanooga, Tenn., on Tuesday to take on the Chattanooga Mocs. The Blazers and the Mocs will square off at 4:00 p.m. (ET) for game one of the doubleheader, with the second game immediately following.
The match-up was originally scheduled for February 13, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
The trip marks the first non-tournament road games for UAB this season.
UAB (9-6) is fresh off its championship win Sunday over the USF Bulls at the USF "The Game" Tournament in Tampa, Fla. The Blazers have won two in a row and four of their last five. UAB is 2-3 when playing at its opponent's home field and 8-6 overall on the road.
The Blazers were originally scheduled as the Mocs' first opponent of the season, but Chattanooga has since played 12 games. The Mocs (6-6) have won five of their last six and are 5-2 at home this season.
In the last meeting between the two teams, Chattanooga edged out UAB 5-4 in Chattanooga. UAB leads the overall series 4-2 and is 2-2 when playing at Chattanooga.

Scouting Chattanooga: After going 38-35 in 2006 and finishing fourth in the Southern Conference, the Mocs return 11 players from last season, including eight starters. Chattanooga lost a key player in Ashleigh Bull, the team's leading hitter last season. Through the early part of the 2007 season, senior Alyssa Edwards has stepped into the role as offensive leader, batting .406 with one homerun and 10 RBI. In the circle, the Mocs are led by senior Ashley Frizzell and freshman Brooke Loudermilk. Frizzell is 2-2 with a 2.02 ERA in 27 2/3 innings, while Loudermilk is 4-2 with a 2.90 ERA in 41 innings. Chattanooga was picked to finish second in the Southern Conference in the 2007 preseason poll.
