BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's soccer team had four players listed on the All-Conference USA teams, announced the league office Tuesday. Seniors Sally Palmer and Jill Porto were honored as members of the first team, while senior Katie Henricks was named to the second team and freshman Allysha Chapman earned a spot on the All-Freshman squad.
Palmer is a four-year starter at forward for the Blazers and has tallied a team-high eight goals, four assists and 20 points this season. In Conference USA games, Palmer leads the league in game-winning goals (4) and is second in goals (6) and points (15).
Palmer, who also serves as a team captain, has etched her named in the UAB career record books, tying for first in game-winning goals (11) and ranking third in goals (28) and fourth in both points (71) and shots (157).
This honor marks the third postseason Conference USA award for Palmer, having previously been named to the All-C-USA second team in 2006 and the All-Freshman team in 2004. In addition, Palmer was also listed on the Preseason All-C-USA team this season.
Porto has been a constant force on the offensive end for UAB throughout her career. As a senior midfielder, she has racked up four goals, two assists and 10 points, while leading C-USA in shots with 67. All four of her goals, and nine of her 10 points, have come against league opponents this season.
Porto has also put her name in the Blazer record books by setting a new school record for shots with 257 career shots taken. She is also tied for fourth in both goals (25) and game-winning goals (7) and ranks ninth in points (60).
This is Porto's second All-C-USA first team selection of her career. She was previously voted on the league's first team as a sophomore in 2005, as well as being named to the All-Freshman squad in '04.
Henricks has been a key element to UAB's defensive success, having played a vital role in the Blazers' nine shutouts this season, with four of the nine shutouts coming against Conference USA opponents.
The second-team selection for Henricks marks the first league honor of her career.
Chapman has made an immediate impact on the Blazers' defense as a true freshman. Playing in 17 games, including earning a spot in the starting lineup in 12 of those contests, Chapman helped the Blazers to nine shutouts on the year. In addition, she added an assist to her resume on Sept. 16 against Gonzaga.
Chapman picked up her first collegiate postseason honor by being named to the All-Freshman squad.
UCF, who earned the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament and a share of the regular-season title, took home three first-team nods. UAB and Colorado College each earned two places on the first team, while five other schools added one apiece.
UTEP's Jami Tullius was named the Offensive Player of the Year and UCF's Jennifer Manis picked up Defensive Player of the Year accolades. Newcomer of the Year went to Danielle dos Santos of UCF, while Memphis' Vendula Strnadova was honored as the Freshman of the Year.
Memphis head coach Brooks Monaghan was voted the league's Coach of the Year after guiding her team to a 14-3-1 overall record and a 7-1-1 mark in C-USA that earned the Tigers a share of the regular-season championship, along with UCF.
The 2007 Conference USA Women's Soccer Tournament begins Wednesday in El Paso, Texas. UAB, who is seeded fourth, will take on No. 5 Rice at 2:30 p.m. MT.
