BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Women's golfer Alyson Mitchell, who played her freshman season at Birmingham-Southern, has transferred to UAB and will join the Blazers for the 2006-07 season.
Mitchell, a native of Troy, Ala., was a regular in the Panthers` lineup last year as a freshman. She recorded three top-five individual finishes during the spring season, including a fifth-place showing at the Big South Championships in April when she helped BSC to the conference title. Mitchell's best individual finish was a runner-up effort at the Ann Rhoads Birmingham-Southern Shootout in February.
"Alyson will be an outstanding student-athlete for UAB," said Blazers' head coach Kim Wilcox. "She has done an excellent job academically and has a super golf game to add to our roster. She will be a great fit for our program and team. With her addition, there are now three Alabama girls on our roster for which I am truly excited."
Mitchell was a two-time all-state selection at Charles Henderson High School and finished second in the 2002 AHSAA Section 2 Tournament. In 2004, Mitchell placed second in the Women's Alabama Golf Association State Junior tournament.
