UAB Softball Faces Southern Miss In Three-Game Set

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB softball team will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., this weekend for a three-game series with Southern Miss. The Blazers and Golden Eagles will play a doubleheader Friday at 5 p.m., with the final game Saturday at 1 p.m.
UAB is 24-16 overall and 10-5 in Conference USA. The Blazers enters the series on a four-game winning streak after sweeping UCF last weekend in a three-game set. UAB is tied for second in the C-USA standings with Marshall and has a two-game lead on USM.
Friday will be the first time UAB has played in Hattiesburg since the 2004 season. The Blazers have not fared well on the road against USM losing all nine of the previous meetings. The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series with UAB, 15-5.
The Golden Eagles are 22-26 on the year and 8-4 in the conference. Jennifer Cox leads the team in hitting with a .346 average in 136 at-bats. She is also the team leader in home runs with six and runs batted in with 31. Lacey Gros is the primary pitcher for USM. Gros is 12-11 this season with a 2.88 ERA in 27 appearances.
