BRADENTON, Fla. -- The UAB women's golf team returns to action Monday and Tuesday at the Waterlefe Invitational hosted by USF. The tournament will be played on the par-72 Waterlefe Golf & River Club course in Bradenton, Fla.
"I expect improvement from our team this time around," UAB head coach Kim Wilcox said. "We've played in this tournament for several years and are familiar with the course. We've worked hard to get better this year and I am confident we'll start to show the improvement we've been looking for."
The field includes another difficult set of opponents for the Blazers. UAB will face host USF, UCF, Florida International, Campbell, Georgia State, James Madison, Louisville, Mercer, Miami (Fla.), Rutgers, Southern Miss, St. Johns and Saint Leo in the tournament.
"We're beginning to understand that we have to play at a higher level than we have been in order to compete with the teams we're playing against. We have an overall young team, so it has been a learning process. We're going up against strong golfers and I think we're beginning to see we have to be as strong to compete."
UAB is coming off a 12th place finish against a tough field at the Papa Johns Collegiate tournament in Coral Gables, Fla., in mid-February. It was the first spring tournament for Wilcox's club.
Wilcox will send Deimling and Hudson to the links, along with sophomore Ashlee Claydon and freshmen Christina Wentworth and Krista Tressler. The those five will remain in Florida for UAB's next tournament - the Cincinnati Spring Invitational which will be played Friday and Saturday, March 24-25, in Crystal River, Fla., at the Plantation Inn Golf Course.
