BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB track and field team will defend its title at the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa, Ala., beginning Thursday. The meet will take place at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Complex on the University of Alabama campus.
The Blazers won the 2005 Alabama Relays by tallying 55 points, two ahead of host Alabama's 53. UAB won two relays and an individual race. Additionally, the Blazers had 11 top-10 finishes in the meet.
"We won last year, but we won't be sneaking up on anyone this year," said UAB head coach Ray Stanfield. "They'll be ready for us. I think we're a better team than in 2005, but so is Alabama. They had a great indoor season and had a lot of athletes compete at nationals. This will be a good meet with great competition. The girls are excited to get the season going."
Competition begins Thursday at 9:30 a.m. (CT) with the heptathlon. Results can be found on www.cfpitiming.com.
