Colvin Leads Blazers in Final Day of Meyo Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- Sophomore Tara Colvin broke the UAB 400 and 500-meter dash school records to highlight the Blazers' performances on the final day of the 19th annual Meyo Invitational this weekend inside Loftus Sports Center.
"Overall this was a very good meet for us," said Blazers head coach Ray Stanfield. "We continued to make progress and build for the conference championships. Our goal is to improve our personal best times each week. Tara Colvin had a strong weekend setting two UAB records."
In the 400-meter dash, Colvin shattered her previous UAB record. Colvin ran a 55.65 in the event and finished fifth. Her previous mark of 56.40 was set last year.
Junior Oriana Carter led the way in the 60-meter dash. Carter ran a 7.75 in the prelims to advance to the finals. She placed eighth in the finals with a time of 7.66. Four other Blazers also competed in the event.
UAB finished seventh in the 4X400-meter relay Saturday with a time of 3:48.41 in the finals.
Junior Erin Harris placed 12th in the Triple Jump with a distance of 38-06.75, while junior Penny Shields placed 19th in the event as well.
The next competition for the Blazers will be on Feb. 11, at the Tiger Invitational in Clemson, S.C. The invitational will be the final event before the C-USA Championships on Feb. 24-25.
