BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB track and field team completed day one of the 19th annual Meyo Invitational Friday evening, inside the Loftus Sports Center on the campus of Notre Dame. The Blazers were led by sophomore Tara Colvin, who set a new UAB record in the 500-meter dash with time of 1:13.43 in the finals.
Colvins' time was good enough for a second place finish and was the highest for the Blazers on the opening day. Freshman Alina Varpiotaite also ran in the 500-meter dash placing seventh.
UAB had five athletes running in the 300-meter dash. Stacey Adewakun led the way with a 13th place finish and a time of 41.10 in the finals. Stephanie McCauley ran a 41.79 in the finals and place 19th. She was followed by Erica Russ (20th) and Shauntae Lockett (21st).
Whitney Mays paced all Blazers in the 1,000-meter run. Mays placed 11th with a time of 3:00.12 in the finals. Jakia Williams finished 19th and Tracy Rowan crossed the line in 21st.
