UAB Track and Field Competes In Tiger Classic

CLEMSON, S.C. - The UAB track and field team finished second in the women's distance medley Friday evening to highlight the opening day of the Tiger Classic held at the Clemson Indoor Track Complex.
The Blazers finished the distance medley with a time of 12:32.54 in the finals. The team consisted of Jakia Williams, Tara Colvin, Alina Varpiotaite and Whitney Mays. In the finals of the 5000-meter run, Katie Stepp placed fourth with a time of 18:52.23.
The Blazers had three athletes compete in the 60-meter dash prelims including Stephanie McCauley, Oriana Carter and Stacey Adewakun. All three advanced to the finals after placing in the top-15. McCauley placed eighth after record a time of 7.67, while Carter's time of 7.72 was good enough for a 13th place. Adewakun finished behind Carter in 14th with a time of 7.79.
Deborah Hawkins led the way for the Blazers in the prelims of the Long Jump. Hawkins placed 11th with a distance of 18-01.75. Erin Harris also competed in the event and finished 16th. In the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles, Harris had the highest finish. She managed to run a 9.17 to place 19th. Erike Russ and Katryce Sykes both ran in the event.
The Tiger Classic will continue Saturday with events starting at 10 a.m.
